The Gibraltar Amateur Basket Ball Association (GABBA) was founded on 6 May 1964. It is the sole governing body of basketball in Gibraltar. Its Constitution provides for the election of its Executive Committee (President, Vice-President, Secretary-General and Treasurer) for a term of 4 years, the elective year being that of the holding of the World Congress of FIBA, to which it was admitted as a full member on 1 July 1986.
Since its admission, Gibraltar has participated regularly in official FIBA competitions for men and women, at senior, under-18 and under-16 levels, where it has won 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals. Its men’s and women’s teams have also participated in the Island Games since 1999, winning 5 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals.
Six GABBA referees and 3 commissioners have held FIBA Licences, 3 and 1 respectively being currently active. Its current President was a Vice-President of FIBA Europe from 2010 to 2014.
An extensive development and coaching programme, for boys and girls from 4 to 18, is led by 2 Technical Directors and their respective teams.
GABBA’s domestic season, with competitions for both sexes, from minibasket to senior, runs from mid-October to May.
